Nicki Minaj Performs "Starships" on American Idol Results Show

American Idol eliminated one finalist last night, leaving eight remaining, all hoping to strike it big, earn a Grammy nomination and sell millions of records.

Just like Nicki Minaj!

The hip hot artist brought her fun attitude and all of her cleavage to the results show this week, dancing around the stage and performing a version of "Starships," the debut track off a new album that comes out on April 3.

Minaj also jokingly asked Jennifer Lopez to "scoot over" so she could judge the contestants for a bit, to which J. Lo replied: “I don’t know if there’s room for both of us up here.”

Check out the performance below and look for Nicki to appear on TV often over the next few days: she will appear at Saturday’s Kids’ Choice Awards and also on the April 6 edition of The Today Show.

Repatriation and reimbursement in case of airline insolvency is important for 86% of business travellers, according to a survey carried out by GEBTA.?

When an airline ceases operating, passengers with standalone tickets have no recourse against the airline to recover the money of their unused ticket or to obtain repatriation if they are stranded abroad, be they business or leisure travellers. The recent failures of the airlines Spanair and Malev were a painful reminder that all passengers are badly hit in case an airline becomes insolvent.

This is an issue of concern for business travellers. According to a survey carried out by GEBTA, the benefit of reimbursement and repatriation would be very important for 67% of business travellers and rather important for 19%, amounting to 86% of business travellers considering it important.

The concerns of business travellers go to the extent that 62% of the respondents would find worth paying 1 euros per air ticket to ensure repatriation or reimbursement in case an airline becomes bankrupt.

These findings are significant at a time when the European Commission is studying policy options to address passenger protection in case of airline failure. It commissioned a study in 2011 which has determined that a compulsory protection system would be feasible and the most effective option to protect passengers. But the European Commission is not excluding a voluntary scheme instead.

Said the Secretary General of GEBTA, Mr. Michel de Blust: "The lack of passenger protection in case of airline failure must not be underestimated by European Institutions. It is urgent that the European Commission initiates a compulsory system obliging airlines to protect all passengers in case an airline ceases operating."

LG has made no secret of its fondness for flexible e-paper, but those dreams became a reality today, with the announcement of a six-inch display that promises to "revolutionize the e-book market." The malleable plastic display sports a resolution of 1024 x 768 and can bend at an angle of up to 40 degrees. At just 0.7 millimeters thick, it's about one-third thinner than similarly-specced glass displays, and weighs in at 14 grams -- more than half as light as its glassy competition. LG also claims that the display is super durable, as evidenced by a series of successful drop tests from a height of 1.5 meters. The plan going forward is to supply the display to ODMs in China, in the hopes of bringing final products to Europe by "the beginning of next month." But proponents of "The Hunger Games" being its own work have plausible arguments too. They note that?"The Hunger Games" is at its heart a science-fiction story set long after a global war, whereas "Battle Royale" is more of a near-future, modern-world thriller. They also argue that "Games" is about broader revolutionary themes, while "Battle" is focused on simple, visceral survival. And of course, the violent, bloody "Battle" is not the young adult novel that "Games"?is.

Despite their fans' passion over the heritage of "Games," neither author appears interested in fueling the debate. Collins told The New York Times that she only learned of Battle Royale after she submitted her first book to her publisher. ?I had never heard of that book or that author until my book was turned in. At that point, it was mentioned to me, and I asked my editor if I should read it. He said: ?No, I don?t want that world in your head. Just continue with what you?re doing.? ?? And Takami told ABC News that he was amused by the debate, though he appreciated his fans' enthusiasm.

All in all, it seems to be another case of there being nothing new under the sun. After all, both novels and movies were predated by Stephen King's novella-turned-blockbuster "The Running Man," which was about ? surprise, surprise ? a reality-television death match run by a totalitarian government in a dystopian future. All three stories drew from books like George Orwell's "1984" and William Golding's "Lord of the Flies." US intel: water a cause for war in coming decades

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Drought, floods and a lack of fresh water may cause significant global instability and conflict in the coming decades, as developing countries scramble to meet demand from exploding populations while dealing with the effects of climate change, U.S. intelligence agencies said in a report Thursday.

An assessment reflecting the joint judgment of federal intelligence agencies says the risk of water issues causing wars in the next 10 years is minimal even as they create tensions within and between states and threaten to disrupt national and global food markets. But beyond 2022, it says the use of water as a weapon of war or a tool of terrorism will become more likely, particularly in South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.

The report is based on a classified National Intelligence Estimate on water security, which was requested by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and completed last fall. It says floods, scarce and poor quality water, combined with poverty, social tension, poor leadership and weak governments will contribute to instability that could lead the failure of numerous states.

Those elements "will likely increase the risk of instability and state failure, exacerbate regional tensions and distract countries from working with the United States on important policy objectives," said the report, which was released at a State Department event commemorating World Water Day.

Clinton, who unveiled a new U.S. Water Partnership that aims to share American water management expertise with the rest of the world, called the findings "sobering."

"These threats are real and they do raise serious security concerns," she said.

The report noted that countries have in the past tried to resolve water issues through negotiation but said that could change as water shortages become more severe.

"We judge that as water shortages become more acute beyond the next 10 years, water in shared basins will increasingly be used as leverage; the use of water as a weapon or to further terrorist objectives, also will become more likely beyond 10 years," it said.

The report predicts that upstream nations ? more powerful than their downstream neighbors due to geography ? will limit access to water for political reasons and that countries will regulate internal supplies to suppress separatist movements and dissident populations.

At the same time, terrorists and rogue states may target or threaten to target water-related infrastructure like dams and reservoirs more frequently. Even if attacks do not occur or are only partially successful, the report said "the fear of massive floods or loss of water resources would alarm the public and cause governments to take costly measures to protect the water infrastructure."

The unclassified summary of the intelligence estimate does not identify the specific countries most at risk. But it notes that the study focused on several specific rivers and water basins. Those included the Nile in Egypt, Sudan and nations farther south, the Tigris and Euphrates in Iraq and the greater Middle East, the Mekong in China and Southeast Asia, the Jordan that separates Israel from the Palestinian territories, the Indus and the Brahmaputra in India and South Asia as well as the Amu Darya in Central Asia.

At a U.N. news conference in New York marking World Water Day, Ania Grobicki, executive secretary of the Global Water Partnership, which includes government, private sector, academic and nongovernmental groups, said, "Water is a global issue and is increasingly seen as a global risk."

"Shortages could cause social and political instability, geopolitical conflict and irreparable environmental damage," the report warned.

On the plus side, speakers highlighted a report released earlier this month showing that the world's nations achieved a U.N. goal of cutting in half the proportion of people without access to safe drinking water five years ahead of the 2015 target.

The report, issued by the U.N. children's agency and the World Health Organization, said over 2 billion people gained access to safe drinking water between 1990 and 2010. That means 89 percent of the world's population, or 6.1 billion people, had access to safe water sources at the end of 2010, but 11 percent, or 783 million, still don't, including about 70 percent of Somalia's citizens.

Apple rewards investors with dividend, share buyback

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Apple Inc CEO Tim Cook, moving swiftly after taking over from late Silicon Valley icon Steve Jobs, fulfilled a longstanding desire of investors by initiating a quarterly dividend and share buyback that will pay out $45 billion over three years.

The world's most valuable company will start paying its first dividends since 1995 - a regular quarterly payout of $2.65 a share - in July, and buy back up to $10 billion of its stock beginning in the next fiscal year.

The $10 billion annual dividend program, which Cook said will be reviewed periodically, ranks among the largest current U.S. corporate cash payouts.

Yet it disappointed some fund managers, given a 1.8 percent dividend yield that lags the Standard & Poor's 500 average and its modest size versus a $98 billion war chest Apple has accumulated selling Macintosh computers and iPhones.

On Monday, the company said it had sold 3 million of its latest, 4G-enabled iPads, setting a first-weekend record for the line of tablet computers.

Cook told analysts on Monday that "making great products" remained top priority, echoing the sentiments of his former boss, who died last October after a long battle with cancer.

Jobs' former lieutenant has impressed Wall Street since taking the helm. He made his mark revealing Apple's production partners and initiating investigations into allegations of labor abuse in its supply chain, and addressing investors directly at this year's Goldman Sachs conference. But the question of whether the operations maven can envision revolutionary products lingers for some.

"Already we are seeing more openness, and more willingness to address issues on many different fronts under Tim Cook than we had seen in the past," said Connor Browne, portfolio manager of Thornburg Value Fund.

"While all this other stuff is good, there is still some pressure on management to come out with fantastic products over the coming months," he said.

Cook's move came less than a year after he was appointed head of the company and suggested to many a move away from Jobs' era, when a dividend was often mentioned but not acted upon. Under Jobs, Apple maintained that capital preservation was key and the company needed the flexibility of having a cash pile.

Apple shares ended up 2.7 percent at $601.10, after notching a record of $601.77 just before its close on the Nasdaq.

DIFFERENT STYLE

When Cook was announced as CEO of one of the most highly recognizable brands, Wall Street feared he lacked Jobs' uncanny vision for ground-breaking consumer electronics. But Apple's shares have gained more than 50 percent since Jobs' death and set a record above $600 last week as investors noted the assurance with which Cook has taken the reins.

Within company headquarters at 1 Infinite Loop, there remains a sense of urgency despite the success, former Apple executive and venture capitalist Jean-Louis Gassee said.

Cook "was part of what made Apple such a juggernaut when Steve was running the show," Gassee said. "He now follows Steve's advice: Don't try to be me, be yourself."

Michael Holt, analyst with Morningstar, said Cook was "putting his own slant on things" but some of the company's core areas, such as product development, have not changed under him.

"The influence of Steve Jobs is very heavy on not only the current products, but also products that are in the pipeline," Holt said. "So it's kind of a balance."

Cook, a former IBM executive and Apple long-time chief operating officer, oversaw the rollout of the iPhone 4S last year and presided over what he said on Monday was a "record weekend" of sales for the new, 4G-enabled iPad.

"Innovation is the most important objective at Apple and we will not lose sight of that," Cook said during the rare late-quarter conference call.

Many investors now await an Apple TV or a similar device: a gadget that will transform an industry the way the iPhone did. On a conference call, one of the first questions that cropped up regarded the product pipeline. Cook declined comment.

"One of the risks with Apple in particular is that they have very little in recurring revenues. Most of the revenue is new sales, which means that innovation is absolutely critical," Oliver Pursche, manager of the GMG Defensive Beta fund."

"That's one of the reasons that the PE is so low."

Apple joins the ranks of Silicon Valley blue chips that have recently begun doling out dividends, including Cisco Systems Inc, which announced its first-ever cash payout in March 2011. Among major technology companies, Apple rival Google Inc remains a prominent holdout.

Analysts said the initiation of a regular payout would attract a broader investor base, but added that many funds had already piled in on hopes of a dividend, after Cook said this year there were active discussions at the top level about what to do with its $98 billion hoard of cash and securities.

"A lot of mutual funds that say they're buying dividend companies had Apple in them. That shouldn't be, but I guess it was obvious that after Tim Cook spoke last time that this was the case," said William Lefkowitz, chief options strategist at VFinance Investments.

Apple expects the share buyback program to run over three years, with the primary objective to offset the impact of employee stock options and equity grants.

Its annual dividend yield will come in around 1.8 percent. That ranks above Oracle Corp and International Business Machines Corp but falls just short of the average of around 2.4 percent for companies in the Standard & Poor's 500 index, analysts say.

The company will still maintain a "war chest" for other strategic opportunities, Cook said. "These decisions will not close any doors for us."

The maker of the iPhone, iPad and iPod has $98 billion in cash and securities, equal to about $104 a share.

Apple said it anticipated using about $45 billion of domestic cash in the first three years of its buyback and dividend programs.

Asked about the substantial cash Apple has parked overseas, Chief Financial Official Peter Oppenheimer said the company had no plans to repatriate it at this time.

"The current tax laws provide a considerable economic disincentive to U.S. companies that might otherwise repatriate the substantial amount of foreign cash that they have," he said. "That's our view. And we've expressed it."

Prep Time: 30 minutes. Cook Time: 30 minutes. Level: Easy

Serves 4-8

24 pc. shrimp in shell, u-10

12 cups water

1? cups dry white wine, such as Riesling

2 lemons juiced

2 bay leaves

10 pieces whole black peppercorn

1 medium onion, peeled, halved and sliced thin ??

1 stalk celery, sliced thin crosswise 1/8?

1 whole leek, washed and sliced thin, white and green

3 medium carrots, peeled, sliced into 1/8? thick rounds

? cup kosher salt

1 recipe Maker?s Mark? Bourbon cocktail sauce (recipe below)

Lemon wedges, for garnish

1. Leaving the shell and tail intact, slice down the back of the shrimp, deveining the shrimp.

2. Bring the water, white wine, lemon juice, bay leaves, peppercorns, onion, celery, leek, carrots, and kosher salt to a boil in a large pot. Reduce to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes until the vegetables are soft and the brine is flavorful. Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a new pot, discarding the solids.

3. Bring the stock back up to a simmer. Add the shrimp in shell and stir to submerge the shrimp. Remove the pot from the heat and allow the shrimp to poach for 10 minutes or until fully cooked.

4. Drain the shrimp and place the shrimp into a large bowl filled with ice. Stir the shrimp with the ice cubes and place the bowl in the freezer until the shrimp have cooled down, about 2-3 minutes.

5. Peel the shell from the shrimp, leaving the tail intact. Discard the shells. Serve the shrimp ice cold alongside the Maker?s Mark? Bourbon cocktail sauce, with fresh lemon wedges.

1 cup Heinz? Ketchup

1 tablespoon TABASCO? Sauce

2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
