Meditation Secrets ? New series of fitness, wellness classes offered ...

Canton YWCA has scheduled its fall session of fitness and wellness classes. Yoga and Belly Dance will be offered in-house at the YWCA, 111 N. Avenue a, and Mature Aerobics will be a cooperative venture with the Canton Park District offered at the Senior Center in big Creek Park. Yoga connects the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of a person for better health. it is a stretch class, improves flexibility, and can be especially helpful to those experiencing arthritis. it is relaxing, yet important physical benefits can result from its regular practice. the YWCA?s yoga class has included people from age 16 to 85 and welcomes both men and women. Marilyn Griffith instructs on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. the next six-week session begins Monday, Sept. 19 and Wednesday, Sept. 21, but new students may join the class now if they wish. Mats are provided, or bring your own. Wear clothing in which you can bend and stretch. Shoes are not required. Belly Dance, also called Tribal Dance, will be offered as a beginner and beginner/intermediate class at 6 p.m. on Thursdays beginning today, Sept. 8. this one-hour class offers a fitness opportunity for women and men of all ages and is very active. because of the movements taught, Belly Dance adds to balance, flexibility and core muscle strength. the instructor is Julie Riccioni. she will be assisted by Pam Walter. Pre-registration is now being taken at the YWCA. Students should enter from the Chestnut Street entrance for both the Yoga and Belly Dance classes, and pre-registration is required. Mature Aerobics will begin a six-week series of classes led by instructor Nancy Stiglish on Sept. 13. the class is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:15 a.m. this class uses upbeat music to burn calories, increase fitness and strength and is also a good stretch class. Designed for those over 50, others are also welcome and both men and women may attend. Individuals work to their own levels of exertion and many moves may be adapted to chair exercise when full movement is not possible. Pre-register by calling 647-0441 weekdays or stop in at the YWCA to pay class fees. the YWCA is a United Way agency and is completing its 90th year of service to Fulton County.
